My name is John Higginbotham. In the summer of 2014, I had a “God dream”. I saw images of white 5-gallon buckets floating around me, and people in the streets carrying them. I was in an inner city/ downtown area. One man was taking personal items out of the bucket, and that was the moment I realized he was homeless. Then I saw myself handing out the buckets on a street corner to people as they were lined up and down the street. Once the buckets were all handed out, I continued to walk around the city, and I noticed people sitting on the buckets in a circle as they talked. It was starting to get dark, so I started to leave the downtown area. I came to an intersection, and while I stood on the corner, I looked up and saw a red neon sign on top of the building that said, “God’s Bucket Brigade”. At that point, the dream ended.
This was the beginning of the planting of a seed. A seed that would take years to germinate and come to fruition. In May of 2016, I was invited to visit Summit Park Church by a friend. The message and experience that day hit me so hard that I never returned to my old church. From that point forward, I started attending SPC on a regular basis and volunteered to serve within the church. On April 30, 2017, I was water baptized, and my life changed forever.
God used many people over the next two years to speak into me. He used many situations that pushed me in the direction He wanted me to go. On April 4, 2019, I said yes to God, and I went “All In” as a full time missionary to serve God and run God’s Bucket Brigade.
Since then, through prayer and God’s guidance, direction, and wisdom, God’s Bucket Brigade has been growing steadily. Blessing after blessing, I have been growing closer to my loving Father. The journey has only just begun. I hope this blog inspires and helps you to have a small window into my world. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
